Christmas Bird Counts
The Christmas Bird Count occurs December 14 to January 5 every season. Some counts have been running every year since 1900 and the CBC now happens in over 20 countries in the western hemisphere. The data collected from this annual census is invaluable for scientists to monitor and analyze bird populations and trends. The event is free and open to all, but you must sign up to participate. To register, please contact the lead compilers directly. Their emails are listed below. The more eyeballs, the better! You will be assigned a route with a team, or you can participate as a backyard birder to help count birds in the established 15-mile diameter circle. No experience necessary; we love showing new participants around!
